Nail pops
Fasteners can move slightly as framing expands and contracts. A lasting repair usually includes securing the drywall before patching and repainting.
Cracks
Small cracks may result from normal movement. Repeated or widening cracks deserve closer inspection, especially near doors, windows or ceilings.
Dents and holes
Small dents can often be filled and sanded. Larger holes may require a backing piece or replacement section.
Water stains
Do not cover a water stain until the leak or moisture source is identified and corrected. Stain-blocking primer may be needed before repainting.
